Simple Format Financial Reporting – Cash (Tier 4) – Online Workshop

2nd and 9th JUNE 2015
starting at 7:00pm

On 2nd June and 9th June I will be hosting an online workshop solely focused on completing Tier 4 financial accounts as will be required to be included in the Annual Return to Charities Services. If these dates and times are not convenient, let me know and we will see what we can do about other times and dates. I will arrange for workshops on Tier 3 also but there will be more information on these in a separate flyer.

So check your reported total operating payments in your profit and loss account or statement of receipts and payments and if, in each of the last two financial years, your annual operating payments are lower than $125,000, then you should register for this workshop as you can elect to use Tier 4 financial reporting standards.

We will work through a real world example using a real Methodist Parish taking the accounting information from an accounting system to the finished accounts ready to be presented to Parish Council, complete the annual statistic forms and file to Charities Services.

I would ask you to register for this workshop as I need to send you a hard copy of the handouts we will be using. This will allow you to follow what I do during the workshop. I will also send you a CD-ROM which will have a number of resources to help you better understand the standards as well as an Excel template spreadsheet ready to go, some of which will be completed.

What you will need for this online workshop is a computer which is connected to the internet. The computer should either be a laptop or a desktop computer, you can use a tablet (like an iPad) but it will not be ideal. If you have a microphone and/or webcam you can use them during the workshop, but for the audio (speaking part of the workshop) we have found it better to use a phone so that is what we will be using. We will provide logon details and phone numbers before the time of the workshop.

Workshops – Tier 3 and 4 – 15 and 16 May 2015

Peter van Hout, the Financial Services Manager of the Board of Administration, Methodist Church of New Zealand will be holding two workshops on the new financial reporting standards for Tier 3 and 4 registered charities.
It will be a hands on presentation showing a “real” Methodist Parish and working from their profit and loss account and balance sheet in Xero to fully completed annual accounts.
There will be a CD-ROM handed out which will include all handouts and EXCEL templates.
There is no cost but a charge of $5.00 will be made to cover a light meal cost.
If you are intending to come, we would appreciate if you could let Peter know by e-mail at least 3 working days BEFORE the workshops. This is to make sure catering and handout numbers are known.

Financial Accounts 30 June 2015

It is getting close to the end of financial year for Methodist entities.  The Methodist Conference in 2014 endorsed the early adoption of Tier 3 and 4 reporting standards as issued by the External Reporting Board which has become compulsory for all financial years commencing 1 April 2015.

It is important that all Methodist entities know if they should be reporting under Tier 3 or 4 and if so be making plans to comply with the new financial reporting standards.

Charities Services, External reporting Board, this Blog site (along with others) are sources of information.  Peter van Hout, Financial Services Manager of the Board of Administration will be running workshops in person and online on how to complete the templates and comply with these new standards.
